Couple Suspected of Abuse After Son Dies

A Sun Valley couple were arrested Thursday on suspicion of child abuse leading to the death of their 3 1/2-month-old son, Los Angeles police said.

Josephina Guadalupe Ojeda Ramirez, 25, and Efrain Ramirez Garcia, 26, took the child to a hospital Jan. 23 for treatment of nausea, police said. He died that day. Doctors found evidence of broken ribs and suspected the baby’s illness and injuries were the result of having been shaken, police said. The cause of death had not yet been determined, the coroner’s office said.
