Titan Baseball on Track

Share

Less than a week after Cal State Fullerton won the College World Series, Titan Baseball will try to be a winner tonight at Hollywood Park.

A 3-year-old Tinners Way gelding trained by Jeff Mullins, who leads the standings at Hollywood Park, Titan Baseball will try two turns for the first time in the sixth race, a $62,500 maiden claimer at 1 1/16 miles.

Claimed for $32,000 out of his first race -- a fourth-place finish going 5 1/2 furlongs on April 9 at Santa Anita -- Titan Baseball was the 11-10 favorite when he debuted for Mullins on May 23 at Hollywood Park.

Stretched out to seven furlongs, the result was the same. He finished fourth, beaten 9 1/2 lengths by Trail Mix.

Cal State Fullerton will have to wait for another day to bet an all-Titan double. Mightiest Titan, who would have been a longshot in the fifth, was scratched Thursday morning.

Race of the day: Jinny’s Gold, who has won two of three on the turf for trainer Dale Romans, will make her first start outside Kentucky in today’s $60,000 Fieldy at Belmont Park.

Edgar Prado will ride the 3-year-old Gold Fever filly in the mile race on turf. It is the eighth on Belmont’s twilight program.

One for the road: Jetticus is bred to handle the turf being a son of Atticus and he could surprise at a big price in his grass debut in today’s fifth at Churchill Downs.

The colt never had a chance to show what he could do in his debut at Keeneland last fall as he fell. There are no proven turf performers in the maiden race at 1 1/16 miles and he will be ridden by Joe Johnson.
