Rockies Get Past Giants for 7-4 Win

Jeromy Burnitz hit a two-run double and the Colorado Rockies stretched their winning streak to four for the first time this year, beating the San Francisco Giants, 7-4, on Monday.

“We’re looking for that hot streak,” said Colorado’s Royce Clayton, who had three hits, including a ninth-inning RBI single. “We knew we were going to get hot at some point. It wouldn’t be bad timing to get some momentum going into the second half.”

Colorado scored five runs in the first on the way to winning in San Francisco for the first time since a 4-1 victory June 2 last year. The Rockies had two four-game winning streaks last July, so Manager Clint Hurdle likes the way this month is shaping up.

“It’s our lucky month,” he said. “We’re looking for a lucky month.”

Aaron Cook (3-3) pitched five effective innings in his 10th start after his recall from triple-A Colorado Springs on May 17. Jeff Fassero pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Shawn Chacon worked the ninth for his 18th save in 24 chances.
