Share

Orange County transportation leaders and Garden Grove officials announced an agreement Friday over the widening of the Garden Grove Freeway. The city had sued the transit agency over improvements to bridges that span the freeway.

Under the agreement, the Orange County Transportation Authority agreed to widen bridge spans on Magnolia Street and reconstruct the bridges on Euclid and Brookhurst streets.

The OCTA also agreed to improve various freeway ramps, subject to the availability of federal funds.

In return, Garden Grove agreed to drop its lawsuit and contribute at least $4 million for bridge construction. The estimated cost of bridge construction is $18 million.

The widening of the 22 Freeway, a $542 million project, is expected to begin this fall.
