Tanker Leaking Toxic Acid Closes I-15
A miles-long stretch of Interstate 15 was closed in both directions Wednesday evening after a tanker truck was found to be leaking chromic acid.
A plume of caustic gas floated from the freeway, and residents within half a mile were evacuated, said Matt Streck, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
“It’s toxic if inhaled or ingested, irritating and corrosive to your lungs,” he said.
About 6 p.m., a driver told the CHP that a yellow-green substance was “spewing” from the truck.
The road was expected to remain closed until after midnight.
