Oxnard detectives are searching for the assailant who stabbed a man to death early Thursday in the Oxnard Shores area, police said.

Responding to a 2 a.m. disturbance call, officers found Joseph M. Castro, 46, with stab wounds to his upper torso in his residence in the 4800 block of Oceanaire Street, said police spokesman David Keith.

He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Keith said.

The cause of death was multiple stab wounds, according to the coroner’s office.

Although police were unable to find his killer, officers contacted a man who was believed to have information about the stabbing, Keith said. The man appeared to have a minor stab wound and was taken to the hospital, Keith said.

The motive for the homicide was unclear, but it does not appear to be gang-related, Keith said.

It was the 11th slaying in the city this year.
