A woman who was stopped Thursday for driving 95 mph on the freeway in Santa Clarita had a dead baby girl in the car and faces murder charges, authorities said.

Feliciana Reyes, 27, of Sacramento was heading south on the Golden State Freeway when a California Highway Patrol officer pulled her over, said Sheriff’s Lt. Gil Carrillo.

Disobeying instructions to stay in the car, Reyes walked toward the officer and said, “Help me. I have a dead baby in the car. Arrest me. I am running away from home,” according to Carrillo.

The officer found the body of a 10-month-old, also named Feliciana Reyes, strapped into an infant seat and covered by a blanket. A second girl in the car, a 5-year-old, was unhurt, authorities said. The children are Reyes’ daughters, Carrillo said.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives questioned Reyes at the Santa Clarita Valley station about six hours before booking her on suspicion of murder.

A representative of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said an autopsy was scheduled for today.
