Backed By Speed Tries to Pull Fast One

Backed By Speed drops into a softer spot for trainer Concepcion Balderrama in tonight’s seventh race, a $15,315 allowance for older fillies and mares at 350 yards.

Owned by Francisco and Erik Flores, the 5-year-old Backed By Fast mare has been chasing Buccaneer Beach, most recently when ninth in the Los Alamitos Winter Championship, a Grade I.

A winner of seven of 22, Backed By Speed was a winner the last time she ran in an allowance contest in January.

She won by 1 3/4 lengths at tonight’s distance and was clocked in 17.55.

Manuel Gutierrez will ride.

The rest of the field includes Yak Ity Yak Go, Kiss Me Outta Here, Ipomea, Especially Wicked and Dolls Special Dotcom.
