A Marine was charged with the murder of a civilian woman who was found shot to death on the base last month.
Gunnery Sgt. Archie O’Neil also faces charges of adultery and weapons violations in the death of Kimberly O’Neal, who lived on the base.
O’Neil, 33, was a member of a battalion deployed to Kuwait on March 1. He was held in Kuwait last week for questioning in the O’Neal murder. O’Neil was returned to California and placed in pretrial confinement.
O’Neal, 39, was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds Feb. 29 in the Camp Horno area of Camp Pendleton, Marine officials said.
If convicted, O’Neil faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
