Mission Viejo’s Jones Is Perfect

Pitcher Chris Jones of Mission Viejo ran his record to 3-0 when he threw the first perfect game in school history in a 10-0 victory over host Lake Forest El Toro in a South Coast League baseball opener Friday.

Jones, who has committed to Texas A&M;, used a dominating fastball to register 10 strikeouts. Teammate Michael Miller had two hits and drove in two runs to lead a balanced offense for the Diablos (4-3), ranked No. 14 in the Southland by The Times.

The City Section has requested an incident report from Reseda Cleveland and Van Nuys Grant after the two schools were involved in a fight at the end of their nonleague game Thursday. Punches were thrown and disciplinary action could be taken against several players.

Boys’ Basketball

Westlake Village Oaks Christian has chosen Ryan Moore to be its next boys’ basketball coach. Moore guided Oaks Christian to the Frontier League championship as an interim coach after replacing Gary Abraham, who resigned in January.

Among the coaches interviewed for the position was former Georgia assistant coach Jim Harrick Jr.
