Zieman Gets His First Win
Bloomington’s Billy Zieman earned his first victory of the season in the 15-lap Pick Your Parts Figure-8 Series feature Saturday night at Irwindale Speedway in front of a near-sellout of about 5,500.
Zieman had been locked in a battle with Rod Proctor and “Monster Garage” host Jesse James through the first six laps when James and Harry Kueniger collided and ended up locked together.
Meanwhile, Zieman had his own collision with Proctor, but Zieman drove over Proctor’s left side, and he took the checkered flag.
The track played host to a rare Saturday appearance by the new Pure Stock series, which normally races on Friday nights.
In the 50-lap race, John Kelley earned his first win in the series by holding off both Michelle and Jimmy Rouse.
