The bodies of two men and two women, all from Palmdale, were recovered Monday from a small plane that crashed Sunday in the mountains of the Los Padres National Forest near Frazier Park.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Department said the plane apparently was en route from Santa Barbara County to the Harris Ranch, a motel and dining complex near Coalinga, when the crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Searchers were led to the accident site by the plane’s emergency locator transmitter, which was activated by the crash.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the two women killed as Kim Wachtel, 43, and Shelby Morris, 50. The men were Peter Wenzel, 57, and Peter Gayed, 38.
