From Times Wire Reports

State water officials are cracking down on users of Russian River water in Mendocino County, ordering two water agencies to install meters or risk losing their rights to divert water from the river.

The state Water Resources Control Board has ordered the two Mendocino County water agencies to comply with state documentation rules within 60 days or face $1,000 daily fines and possible civil enforcement action by the attorney general. The issue casts a shadow over the water supply of 50,000 people.
