Misdemeanor Charge Urged in July Fire

The California Department of Forestry has recommended a misdemeanor charge of recklessly causing a fire against a Hawthorne man who allegedly ignited the 3,833-acre Verbenia fire outside of Palm Springs in July.
Kyle Ferree, 22, was allegedly target shooting when his gunfire started the blaze in Pine Cove and Idyllwild. The Riverside County district attorney will begin reviewing the case next week.
