Andrew Walter overcame a shaky start to throw three touchdown passes and third-string tailback Hakim Hill ran for 134 yards and a touchdown to help No. 21 Arizona State beat Oregon, 28-13, on Saturday night at Eugene, Ore.

Hill was playing in place of suspended starter Loren Wade and injured backup Randy Hill for the Sun Devils, who improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference, and are off to their best start since winning 11 straight in their 1996 Rose Bowl season.

Oregon (1-3, 0-1), which had won seven straight Pac-10 openers, held the ball nearly six minutes longer than the Sun Devils and outgained them, 311-283, but the Ducks also lost 83 yards in 10 penalties.

Walter, who threw for 957 yards and seven touchdowns against the Ducks the previous two seasons, was held to 164 yards and completed 14 of 23 passes. The senior came into the game with 1,085 yards passing and 12 touchdowns this season, but completed only one of his first five passes for six yards.

He threw a 22-yard scoring strike to Jamaal Lewis early in the second quarter to give the Sun Devils a 7-3 lead.

Stanford 27, Washington 13 -- J.R. Lemon ran for a career-best 162 yards and three touchdowns, and the Cardinal (3-1, 1-1) ended a six-game losing streak against the Huskies (0-4, 0-2) in a victory at Palo Alto.

Nick Sanchez returned a blocked punt for a score on the final play of the third quarter for Stanford.
