Riverside Chief May Face Misdemeanor Case
City police plan to recommend a charge of misdemeanor battery against Riverside Police Chief Russ Leach for allegedly hitting his wife at a San Diego hotel last week. The case will be turned over to the San Diego city attorney’s office Tuesday for review.
Assistant Chief Rulette Armstead said the case, which alleges that Leach hit his wife and stamped on her foot in a Mission Bay hotel room, was based on several witness statements, including one from a security guard who told police he saw the incident through a bathroom window while standing on a planter.
Leach and his wife, Connie, have vehemently denied that anything violent occurred.
The couple said they were just arguing inside their hotel room.
