Bailey Returns Today on Belmont Park Card

Share

Jockey Jerry Bailey, who has been sidelined since Sept. 1 because of a broken left wrist suffered while working at home in Florida, will return today at Belmont Park.

Bailey, perennially among the nation’s leaders in earnings, will ride My Muchacha in the fourth, a $45,000 maiden race for 2-year-old fillies, and Soul Star in the sixth, a $46,000 turf race for 2-year-old maiden fillies. Both horses are trained by Bill Mott.

A daughter of Honor And Glory, My Muchacha is returning to the main track after finishing seventh among 12 as part of a favored entry in a mile turf race Sept. 17. The last time she ran on the dirt, My Muchacha was beaten a nose -- with Bailey aboard -- in a $50,000 claimer.

Soul Star, a Grand Slam filly, was fourth in her turf debut Aug. 8 at Saratoga and should improve with a route under her belt.

At Keeneland, Eurosilver will make his first start since finishing second in the Swale at Gulfstream Park on March 13. Considered a top Kentucky Derby prospect after his win in the Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland last fall, Eurosilver is being trained by Carl Nafzger after making his first five starts for Nick Zito.

Eurosilver, who will be ridden by Javier Castellano, will take on nine opponents in the $100,000 Perryville at seven furlongs.

Race of the day: Bat Mobile, a winner of two of six on the turf, will make his first start since Feb. 29 for owners Gary and Mary West and trainer Bobby Frankel in the third at Santa Anita. The race is the first leg of a pick six with a carry-over of $77,213.

One for the road: Dynamo Hum has switched to trainer Frank Laboccetta Jr., who is winning at a 24% rate this year, and could show big improvement against weak opponents in the ninth at Belmont Park.

Exotically speaking: A pick all using Talega De Oro and Chanel Islands in the first, Skukuza in the second, Bat Mobile in the third, Yo Sal in the fourth, Montana Deputy and Licari in the fifth, Desert Gal and Passion For Words in the sixth, Summer Scene and Broad Minded in the seventh and Any Questions and Charmopoly in the eighth.
