A piece of Grand Avenue culture

Share

City fathers have grandiose plans for Grand Avenue, and the area’s arts institutions are bringing out heavyweight talent Sunday for the second Grand Avenue Festival, designed to introduce Angelenos to the cultural amenities of downtown.

That day, the Museum of Contemporary Art offers free admission and hourly tours of its Robert Smithson and Ed Ruscha exhibitions, the Los Angeles Opera presents two free performances of the children’s opera “Brundibar” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and the Mark Taper Forum offers discount tickets for its two performances of “Nothing but the Truth” for only $12. Also participating are the L.A. Central Library, the L.A. Philharmonic, the REDCAT and the Colburn School of Performing Arts, among others. Additionally, a family festival, food from area restaurants and a wide variety of live entertainment and art performances are featured throughout downtown.

Grand Avenue Festival, Grand Avenue between Temple and 5th streets, L.A. Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Most events are free, but tickets are required for some venues. See www.downtownla.com (213) 624-2146.
