A Cavalcade of Winners for the Anoakia Stakes

Share

Five of the 10 2-year-old fillies in today’s $75,000 Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita are coming off wins.

Bulita, Word Girl, Kash Klip, Swift Wings and She’s A Jewel all tasted victory in their most recent races, and of that quintet, She’s A Jewel figures to get the most attention.

She’s A Jewel, a 2-year-old Successful Appeal filly, finished 12 1/4 lengths behind favored winner Shes Salty in her debut on July 31 at Del Mar.

About three weeks later, the Florida-bred added Lasix and responded with a five-length victory at 7-2, winning in 1:04 1/5 for the 5 1/2 furlongs.

Because She’s A Jewel had to miss some training time due to recent inclement weather, trainer Vladimir Cerin could scratch the 2-1 morning-line choice, meaning the role of favorite could fall to Hello Lucky or Swift Wings, who beat maidens by three-quarters of a length in her last start on Aug. 22.

The field for the six-furlong Anoakia is completed by Bertha Jo, Fairy Tale Dream, No Bull Baby and Ninadivina.

Race of the day: Sulamani, a multiple Grade and Group 1 winner, will seek his ninth win in 17 starts in today’s $1.5-million Canadian International at Woodbine. Frankie Dettori will ride the 5-year-old son of Hernando against 10 others in the 1 1/2 -mile turf race.

One for the road: Tadreeb won by nearly seven lengths the first time he tried the turf for trainer Mark Hennig and can come right back in today’s ninth at Belmont Park, the $75,000 Pilgrim at 1 1/8 miles. Jerry Bailey will ride the 2-year-old Theatrical colt.

Exotically speaking: A place pick all using Youaresweet and Taylor’s Series in the first, Dyna Wild in the second, Smokette in the third, Pussycat Doll in the fourth, Target Shoot and T.H. Approval in the fifth, Dominated Day in the sixth, She’s A Jewel, Swift Wings and No Bull Baby in the seventh, Shezsospiritual and Bonaire in the eighth and Court Seeker in the ninth.
