David Greene made good in his last game against Florida, throwing three touchdown passes as No. 10 Georgia ended a six-game losing streak against the Gators with a 31-24 victory Saturday at Jacksonville, Fla.

“We wanted this game so bad,” Greene said. “It’s my senior year and I knew this was the last time I was ever going to play a game on this stage.”

Greene matched Tennessee’s Peyton Manning for the most victories (39) by a starting quarterback in Division I-A.

More important, Greene helped Georgia end years of frustration against Florida, which had won 13 of the last 14 in the series.

“I’m glad our fans can come back here and not have to listen to Florida fans running their mouths anymore,” defensive end David Pollack said.

The Bulldogs, 7-1 and 5-1 in the Southeastern Conference, scored touchdowns on their first three possessions -- eliminating whatever emotional edge the Gators (4-4, 2-4) may have had from the firing of Coach Ron Zook earlier in the week. Zook will coach the team until season’s end.

“It was very unsettling. I didn’t know how the team would take it,” Zook said. “It was an emotional week. But I am proud of them for hanging in there.”

No. 3 Auburn 35, Mississippi 14 -- Jason Campbell rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another at Oxford, Miss., as the Tigers (9-0, 6-0) clinched a spot in the SEC championship game by winning the Western Division.

Mississippi (3-5, 2-3) must defeat Arkansas, Louisiana State and Mississippi State to qualify for its third consecutive bowl game.

No. 11 Tennessee 43, South Carolina 29 -- Erik Ainge threw three touchdown passes as the Volunteers (7-1, 5-1) overcame early offensive problems at Columbia, S.C., to win their 12th in a row over the Gamecocks (5-3, 3-3).

No. 19 Louisiana State 24, Vanderbilt 7 -- Alley Broussard ran for 80 yards and a touchdown and the Tigers (6-2, 3-2) totaled 273 rushing yards in brushing aside the Commodores (2-6, 1-4) at Baton Rouge, La.

Mississippi State 22, Kentucky 7 -- Fred Reid rushed for 109 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown run with 3:34 remaining at Starkville, Miss., to give the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-3) their second consecutive victory. The Wildcats (1-7, 0-5) have lost six in a row.
