Eskandarian Gets D.C. United Past Burn

Alecko Eskandarian scored two goals and Jaime Moreno had three assists, leading D.C. United to a 3-0 win over the Dallas Burn in a Major League Soccer game Saturday at Washington.

Freddy Adu scored his fourth goal for United.

Oscar Pareja was ejected in the 46th minute, leaving Dallas (9-11-5) a player short.

Eskandarian put United (7-9-9) ahead just before halftime. Ben Olsen took a pass from Moreno and moved toward the goal before passing toward Eskandarian.

Eskandarian scored his team-leading ninth goal in the 82nd minute.

Adu’s goal, his first since Aug. 11, came two minutes later.

United goalkeeper Nick Rimando was rarely tested. Dallas had a late scoring chance when Milton Reyes streaked past three defenders, but his shot flew across the goal face, wide to the right.

MetroStars 3, New England 2 -- Reserve forward Cornell Glen scored in the 68th minute to help the MetroStars rally at East Rutherford, N.J.

The victory was the Metro- Stars’ first against the Revolution (5-11-9) in eight games. It also ended a four-game winless streak that dropped the Metro- Stars out of first place in the Eastern Conference.

The MetroStars (10-9-6) moved within one point of Columbus for the top spot in the East.

Glen ended a 2-2 tie when he scored off a pass from John Wolyniec. Eddie Gaven and Mike Magee also had goals for the MetroStars after Pat Noonan and Taylor Twellman gave New England a 2-0 lead.

Arsenal (5-0-0) stretched its record unbeaten string in the Premier League to 45 games with a 3-0 victory over Fulham behind two goals in the second half by Freddie Ljungberg and one by Jose Antonio Reyes....
