Ex-LAPD Photo Chief Gets Probation in Videotape Case
The former chief photographer for the Los Angeles Police Department pleaded guilty Monday to secretly videotaping a 13-year-old girl as she undressed for a modeling session, officials said.
David Adkins, 56, who was relieved as supervisor of the department’s photographic operations in March, was sentenced to two years’ probation by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kevin L. Brown and ordered not to take any photographs without the subject’s permission. Adkins testified at the O.J. Simpson murder trial in 1995.
He shot the surreptitious videotape on March 22, 2003, at his San Fernando Valley home as the girl was changing clothes in a bedroom, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
The girl expected to be photographed in conjunction with Adkins’ Internet modeling business, Gibbons said.
A relative who accompanied the girl saw the camera, grabbed the tape and turned it over to the LAPD.
A former commercial photo studio owner, Adkins took charge of the LAPD photographic operation 15 years ago. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of lewd and disorderly conduct.
