Who Needs the NFL?Not Us ... for Now

Congratulations, Bill Plaschke, on a fine column about the NFL in L.A. [Sept. 10]. As I read your piece, I was amazed. No, thunderstruck.
Imagine! I actually agree with you wholeheartedly.
However, in some future week, month, or year, there will be a tangible opportunity on the table for the Southland to acquire an NFL club.
On that day, clamor will arise among the masses for action. Will our local politicos step up and meet the challenge?
My experience with this newspaper tells me that I can depend upon The Times -- nay, depend upon Bill Plaschke himself! -- to stand in the gap and ferociously excoriate this community for not doing enough to close the deal and give us the NFL franchise it wants. The NFL franchise it needs. The NFL franchise it deserves.
Whether it be the direction of a local franchise (Keep the Lakers together! Send the bums packing! What the heck did you do to my Lakers?!), or an entire league, you are truly one of the most gifted writers at allowing the wind of public opinion to breathe life into a column.
Because this one didn’t bring tears to my eyes, I can only assume that you’ve already got the director of communications gig sewn up with the future L.A. Colts/Saints.
