Two men in custody on weapons and narcotics charges were booked again Thursday on suspicion of attempted murder after sheriff’s deputies linked them to a series of shootings earlier this month.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Stewart Sandecki said witness accounts and corroborating evidence tied Gilbert Rodriguez, 20, and Ajay Hernandez, 19, both of Hacienda Heights, to the attacks on Aug. 6.

Officers said the two men fired shots into a vehicle on the Pomona Freeway near Hacienda Boulevard that left a 19-year-old man in critical condition. The victim, whose name has not been released, was expected to survive, Sandecki said.

Rodriguez and Hernandez were later involved in two other shootings about two miles away on Fullerton Road, but no one was hit, Sandecki said.

Sandecki declined comment on possible motives.

Rodriguez and Hernandez were arrested on the weapons and narcotics counts Aug. 8. Sandecki said a search warrant led to the evidence and witnesses allegedly linking them to the shootings.
