Cold Wave Costs Pepperdine, 71-55

Alando Tucker scored 16 points and Wisconsin defeated Pepperdine, 71-55, Saturday at Madison, Wis.

Freshman Michael Gerrity and senior forward Tashaan Forehan-Kelly each scored 12 points for the Waves (1-4).

The Badgers opened the second half with a 9-0 run to build a 42-23 lead. Forehan-Kelly made two free throws with 14 minutes 59 seconds left for Pepperdine’s first points of the second half.

The Waves’ first field goal of the half came on a layup by Gerrity with 14:22 to play.

The Waves had a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to 46-37 on a basket by sophomore center Jarrad Henry with 11:48 remaining. But that’s as close as they would get to the Badgers.

UC Irvine 68, San Jose State 58 -- Darren Fells had 19 points and eight rebounds for the host Anteaters (4-3), who handed the Spartans (3-4) their third consecutive loss.

Aaron Fitzgerald had 18 points and Ross Schraeder scored 15 for the Anteaters, who shot 56.3% from the field.

Matt Misko scored five points within two seconds and the Spartans cut the deficit to 58-55 before Irvine went on a 10-0 run for a 68-55 lead with 57.3 seconds left.

Loyola Marymount 77, UC Santa Barbara 60 -- Matthew Knight had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the host Lions (1-4), who finished the first half with a 27-6 run and held the Gauchos (2-3) without a field goal for the last 8:38 of the half.

Alex Harris scored 15 points for the Gauchos, who trailed by as many as 26 points in the second half of their third consecutive loss.

Jon Ziri scored 16 for Loyola Marymount, Brandon Worthy had 15 and Wes Wardrop had 14.

Portland 99, Long Beach State 95 -- Pooh Jeter scored 28 points to lead the host Pilots (2-5), who shot 61% from the field.

Shawn Hawkins led the 49ers (2-3) with 19 points, including 12 on three-point shots.

The 49ers trailed, 88-87, after Jibril Hodges made a three-point basket with 2:52 left.

A three-pointer by Sterling Byrd cut the deficit to 97-95 with six seconds to play but Jeter finished off the scoring with two free throws.
