P.J. Brown and the New Orleans Hornets wanted some respect. After getting involved in an altercation, the 12-year veteran helped them earn it by sparking the decisive run in an 89-76 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Oklahoma City.

“The young guys, they want to be on TV. They want respect,” he said. “I said, ‘If you want respect, these are the type of games you’ve got to win.’ ”

Brown and the Hornets also held Tim Duncan to 11 points, matching his season low, in front of a Ford Center-record crowd of 19,267.

Chris Paul finished one assist shy of his first career triple-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Hornets. Michael Finley and Tony Parker scored 17 points apiece for the Spurs.

Brown broke a 69-69 tie and sparked a 10-0 run with a jump shot with 8:12 left. He also committed a flagrant foul on Finley in the second quarter after thinking he had been fouled by Duncan.

Brown, Finley, the Spurs’ Robert Horry and the Hornets’ Desmond Mason were called for technical fouls for confrontations after the flagrant foul.
