A 28-year-old Oxnard man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of his roommate, police said on Monday.

Oscar Acosta Trejo was arrested about 3 a.m. Sunday, about two hours after Ricardo Acosta-Rosales, 17, died from stab wounds, said David Keith, spokesman for the Oxnard Police Department.

Trejo and Acosta-Rosales were roommates in the 2200 block of Lassen Street and apparently got into a fight outside their residence, Keith said.

“We don’t know what prompted the dispute, but [Acosta-Rosales] was stabbed in the throat with a broken beer bottle,” he said.

Trejo was arrested after an off-duty state beach ranger on his way home stopped him on suspicion of driving under the influence as he was driving north on U.S. 101 near Goleta in Santa Barbara County, Keith said.

The ranger noticed that Trejo’s clothes were splattered with blood and contacted police, who arrested Trejo, Keith said.
