From Staff and Wire Reports

Fernando Perez, 33, was sentenced on Thursday to 32 months in state prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from his employer and failing to report the money on his state income-tax returns, according to the Franchise Tax Board.

The Fontana man, who pleaded guilty in December to grand-theft and tax-evasion charges, must also repay his former employer and pay $47,000 to the tax board, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge William N. Sterling’s sentence.

The crimes occurred from 2000 to 2002 while Perez was a buyer at a Southland business.
