Connecticut Stops Rutgers Again

Charde Houston scored 17 points to lead No. 11 Connecticut to a 57-44 victory over No. 7 Rutgers on Thursday night at Hartford, Conn., in the Scarlet Knights’ lowest-scoring game of the season.
The Huskies, 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the Big East Conference, also got a career-high 12 points from Ashley Valley in their 12th straight victory over Rutgers (15-5, 6-2).
Rutgers has been on a roll this season, knocking off powerhouses Louisiana State, Tennessee and Texas, but the Scarlet Knights couldn’t get past their Big East nemesis.
No. 1 Louisiana State 82, Mississippi 58 -- Seimone Augustus had 22 points to lead LSU at Oxford, Miss.
LSU (20-1, 7-0 Southeastern) made nearly 53% of its shots and held the Rebels to 28% shooting.
Carletta Brown had 17 points for Ole Miss (15-6, 5-3).
No. 3 Duke 72, Miami 63 -- Jessica Foley scored 17 points, and Monique Currie added 15 to lead Duke at Coral Gables, Fla.
Duke (21-2, 7-1 Atlantic Coast) shot 48.1% from the field.
Tamara James led Miami (10-11, 2-6) with 18 points.
No. 4 Stanford 91, Arizona 74 -- Candice Wiggins had 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals and a blocked shot at Palo Alto.
Stanford (20-2, 11-1 Pacific 10) dominated from start to finish to extend its home winning streak to 18 games.
Shawntinice Polk and Dee-Dee Wheeler didn’t start for Arizona (15-7, 7-4), a disciplinary measure by Coach Joan Bonvicini for violating undisclosed team rules.
No. 5 Tennessee 91, Florida 82 -- Shanna Zolman scored a career-high 28 points and Tennessee made 40 of 46 free throws at Gainesville, Fla.
The Lady Vols (17-3, 7-0 SEC) extended their conference regular-season winning streak to 41 games.
Florida (12-9, 3-5) has lost 12 straight to Tennessee.
No. 10 Michigan State 101, Northwestern 40 -- Victoria Lucas-Perry nearly doubled her career high with 25 points at East Lansing, Mich., and the Spartans (19-3, 8-2 Big Ten) matched the largest victory margin in school history. Samantha McComb had 11 points for Northwestern (5-18, 2-8).
No. 14 Minnesota 81, Iowa 50 -- At Minneapolis, Jamie Broback had 21 points and nine rebounds for Minnesota (17-4, 7-2 Big Ten). Jamie Cavey led Iowa (15-5, 4-5) with 18 points.
No. 18 Georgia 72, Alabama 63 -- Tasha Humphrey scored 18 points for Georgia (17-6, 6-3 SEC), which shot 45.5% from the field at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Monique Bivins led Alabama (12-8, 3-4) with 14 points.
No. 20 Maryland 84, Georgia Tech 67 -- Shay Doron and Crystal Langhorne each scored 18 points at College Park, Md., to help give Coach Brenda Frese her 100th victory. The Terrapins (15-5, 4-4 ACC) completed their first regular-season sweep of the Yellow Jackets (12-7, 3-5) since the 1997-98 season.
No. 21 Vanderbilt 106, Mississippi St. 98 -- Carla Thomas had a career-high 33 points and 17 rebounds, and Vanderbilt (16-5, 5-3 SEC) overcame Tan White’s 47 points to beat Mississippi State (14-7, 3-5) in double overtime at Starkville, Miss.
No. 23 Penn State 76, Michigan 61 -- Tanisha Wright scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half for Penn State (14-7, 9-1 Big Ten) at Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines (5-16, 1-9) have lost 12 of their last 13 games.
No. 24 Florida State 73, Lipscomb 49 -- Roneeka Hodges scored 18 points, and Florida State (19-4) pulled away from Lipscomb (10-8) with a 16-0 second-half run at Nashville.
No. 25 North Carolina State 62, Virginia 56 -- Billie McDowell scored 17 points, and North Carolina State (16-5, 5-3 ACC) overcame a 16-point deficit to beat Virginia at Raleigh, N.C.
The Wolfpack held Virginia (16-6, 5-3) scoreless for the final 3 1/2 minutes.
