Matt Haryasz scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to help Stanford to a 71-56 victory over California on Saturday at Palo Alto, but the win proved costly for the Cardinal.

Dan Grunfeld, who had 16 points for Stanford, is out for the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee during the second half.

Grunfeld was helped into the locker room with 15:16 remaining after falling awkwardly after his layup attempt was blocked by Richard Midgley. Grunfeld, who leads the Cardinal in scoring, reached double figures in 20 of his last 22 games.

Rob Little had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Chris Hernandez added 13 points for Stanford, 13-9 overall and 7-5 in the Pacific 10.

David Paris had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Bears (12-10, 5-7), who have dropped 15 of their last 17 games against Stanford.

California has lost 12 in a row at Maples Pavilion.

The 56 points were the fewest California has scored since losing to St. Mary’s, 61-52, on Nov. 12.

California’s top three guards were a combined four of 27 from the field.

“It was a tough day from the perimeter,” Golden Bear Coach Ben Braun said. “The shots just didn’t fall. We struggled collectively.”

Oregon 69, Washington State 66 -- Bryce Taylor scored 12 points, including the game-winning basket with a minute left, to lead the Ducks past the Cougars at Eugene, Ore.
