Grammy picks lifetime award winners

Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin and Jerry Lee Lewis will be among the 10 recipients of lifetime achievement awards at this year’s Grammy ceremony. The honorees, which span rock, country, R&B;, blues, jazz and classical music, also include Eddy Arnold, Art Blakey, the original members of the Carter Family, composer-conductor Morton Gould, Jelly Roll Morton, blues pianist Pinetop Perkins and the Staple Singers.

The awards will be acknowledged during a special ceremony Feb. 12 and during the next day’s televised broadcast of the annual awards show from Staples Center.

Composer Hoagy Carmichael, “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius, Blue Note Records co-founder Alfred Lion and jazz composer, pianist and educator Billy Taylor will receive the Recording Academy’s trustees award, which recognizes contributions to the industry in a nonperforming capacity. Producer-engineer Phil Ramone and JBL Professional will receive this year’s technical achievement Grammy awards.
