Ohio State Rallies in Showdown

Jessica Davenport scored five of her 14 points during a late 16-0 run to lead the No. 9 Buckeyes to a 68-54 victory over No. 6 Michigan State on Thursday night in Columbus, Ohio.

“When we got down eight, we ratcheted it up and went to another level,” Ohio State Coach Jim Foster said of the Buckeyes, who finished the game on a 34-12 run after facing their biggest deficit with 15 minutes left.

Brandie Hoskins led the Buckeyes (13-2, 2-1 Big Ten) with 17 points. Caity Matter added 12 points, and Stephanie Blanton had 10.

Liz Shimek scored 17 points and Kristin Haynie had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans (12-2, 1-1), whose eight-game winning streak ended.

No. 5 North Carolina 79, Winthrop 29 -- Erlana Larkins scored 15 points and North Carolina broke the school record for fewest points allowed in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Camille Little and Ivory Latta each added 10 points for the Tar Heels (12-1), who broke the school record for fewest points allowed of 31 set against Davidson in February 1975.

Jessica Dukes scored 16 points for the Eagles (2-11).

No. 11 Minnesota 74, Wisconsin 49 -- Janel McCarville became the 10th player in Big Ten history to surpass 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career, finishing with 15 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots for Minnesota (12-2, 3-0) in Madison, Wis. McCarville, a Wisconsin native, has 1,523 points and 1,008 rebounds in her career.

Jordan Wilson scored 14 points for Wisconsin (6-6, 1-2).

N.C. State 65, No. 16 Vanderbilt 64 -- Rachel Stockdale scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half to lead North Carolina State (12-2).

Dee Davis scored 13 points for Vanderbilt (11-2), which had a 49-game home nonconference winning streak ended.

No. 17 Georgia 78, Mississippi 51 -- Tasha Humphrey scored 17 of her 18 points in the second half and had 11 rebounds at home to help Georgia (12-3, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) win its seventh straight game and end a six-game winning streak for Mississippi (10-4, 0-1).

Penn St. 77, No. 18 Iowa 71 -- Jess Strom scored nine of her career-high 29 points in the final 2:18 and Penn State (7-6, 2-0) held on to beat previously undefeated Iowa (13-1, 2-1 Big Ten) on the road.

The Hawkeyes trailed, 59-39, with less than 12 minutes to play.

No. 24 Purdue 54, Indiana 31 -- Emily Heikes and Katie Gearlds each scored 11 points for Purdue in the lowest-scoring game in history for Indiana (7-6, 0-3 Big Ten), which lost at home.

The Boilermakers (9-4, 2-1) went nearly 8 1/2 minutes in the first half and more than nine minutes in the second half without a field goal.

No. 25 Virginia Tech 80, Fordham 67 -- Erin Gibson scored 14 points, and Kerri Gardin had eight of her 13 down the stretch to help Virginia Tech (11-2) win its ninth straight game, in Blacksburg, Va.

Jada Jefferson scored a career-high 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting for the Rams (4-10).
