Police Officer Kills Motorist in Traffic Stop
A police officer shot and killed a 23-year-old motorist early Monday, authorities said.
Julio Paredes, of Oakland, was shot at about 3:45 a.m. at a popular casino in this small East Bay city. Paredes was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The officer stopped Paredes for a traffic violation, asking for his license and registration. Paredes refused and put the car in reverse, pinning the officer’s legs between two cars, said Cmdr. Jeannie Quan. Fearful for his life, the officer fired three shots through the window, Quan said.
