A Chino Hills junior high school teacher was arrested Monday on suspicion of committing lewd acts with a 13 year-old female student, authorities said.

Adrian Kist, 22, a substitute teacher for the Chino Valley Unified School District, most recently worked as the band instructor for Townsend Junior High School, where the alleged victim attended classes. Officials said Kist first met the girl at the school.

The lewd acts were allegedly committed Sunday at the girl’s home, when her parents and a neighbor walked in on the pair, said Det. Rosalind Lewis of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, which provides law enforcement for the city.

The girl said it was the only time such an act had taken place, Lewis said.

The school district has deactivated Kist’s status as a substitute teacher, district spokeswoman Julie Gobin said.

The district fingerprints and performs background checks on full- and part-time employees.

Kist, who has worked in several district positions since 2000, “must have passed,” before he began to work in classrooms, Gobin said.

School officials who could have had students who came in contact with Kist have been notified, administrators said, and plans have been made to further alert parents and children.
