Current: A buzz or a fizzle?

Re “A note about Current,” July 10

I have to say I was apprehensive about the impending change to my favorite section of the Sunday Times, Opinion.

In fact, I put it aside on Sunday and chose to read it later, making sure I had enough time to give it my full attention so as not to miss anything. Current was a terrific read! I can see what you’re trying to do by making reading the editorials a little more fun and not so much work. It’s like a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, right?

With all the drama about how people don’t read the newspaper anymore, it makes sense to make reading the paper more enjoyable.

I have been subscribing to the L.A . Times for many years. Every Sunday I look forward to the paper. The first thing I do is look for the Opinion section. The title of this section is appropriate because it reflects its contents: editorials, opinions and letters to the editor.

I am in favor of progress and change if necessary, but I am strongly opposed to change for the sake of change, which the new name Current certainly is. I don’t think that the arguments you made in favor of the change are valid.

Why, oh why have you expanded the type size and spacing of the editorials? Now there is only room for two columns of letters instead of three. The editorials were perfectly legible before -- no different than the rest of the paper -- and you have deprived us of one-third of readers’ comments. Please stop tinkering with a perfectly well-formatted page.
