Update -- Colorado used a packed defense to blank the Galaxy, 1-0, at Denver on Wednesday night but lost two starters, defensive midfielder Pablo Mastroeni and defender Guy Melamed, to red cards. Both will serve one-game suspensions tonight. Colorado is also without defender Hunter Freeman, who is with the U.S. under-20 national team, which plays Egypt today at the FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands. Chivas USA will be without defender Alfonso Loera (right groin strain). Fourth-place Colorado, which defeated Chivas, 2-1, at Denver on May 14, is five points ahead of fifth-place Chivas in the Western Conference. Chivas has earned two ties in its last three games as it tries to reverse its fortunes under Coach Hans Westerhof. “With the situation we’ve put ourselves into now, where we’re at the bottom of the table, we need to get maximum points every time, especially at home,” said Chivas defender Ezra Hendrickson. “We believe that this thing is possible. We believe that it’s possible for us to come in the top four in the conference and qualify [for the playoffs]. That’s our goal.”
