Qualifying Starts Today for Indian Wells Event

The remaining main-draw, wild-card spots for the Pacific Life Open tennis tournament at Indian Wells were announced Sunday. Qualifying for the women’s field begins today with main-draw play starting Wednesday. The men start with qualifying on Wednesday and Thursday with the main draw beginning Friday.

The final two wild cards for the women went to Daja Bedanova of the Czech Republic and Alissa Kleybanova of Russia. American Alex Kuznetsov was given the last men’s wild-card spot, joining Mark Philippoussis of Australia, Americans James Blake and Donald Young and Gael Monfils of France.

Wild cards into women’s qualifying went to Americans Anne Yelsey, Ashley Joelson, Anne Mall and Brittany Blaylock, and 16-year-old Sanja Ancic of Croatia. Ancic is the younger sister of Davis Cup star Mario Ancic.
