Whiners and Winners
I feel Lyubov Denisova’s pain. I too thought I had a lock on the $75,000 bonus until the organizers of the L.A. Marathon decided that I would have only an 18-hour head start, instead of the 24 hours I felt I was entitled to, considering my age and overall decrepitude. Frankly, I suspect they’re waging a conspiracy against people with Russian names!

I ran my first marathon Sunday in the City of Angels. I want to thank the folks on Crenshaw for blasting Bob Marley’s “Cry to Me” out of their apartment, the kids with their high fives, the little old lady who gave me thumbs-up from behind the chain-link fence, Elvis and all the folks on the course. What a great experience!
