Plaschke Wins First Place From Sports Editors
Bill Plaschke of The Times won first place in column writing in the large-circulation category of the Associated Press Sports Editors annual writing awards announced Thursday.
Plaschke, who also received an honorable mention in feature writing, was also the first-place column winner in 1999.
Three other Times writers were honored in the final judging: Bill Shaikin was fourth place in feature writing and honorable mention in breaking news, Steve Henson and Jeff Benedict were third place in explanatory journalism, and T.J. Simers received honorable mention in columns.
The top five in each category will be presented awards at the APSE convention in Orlando, Fla., June 22-25.
