Remains That of ‘Young Person,’ Police Say
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Skeletal remains found in the chimney of a vacant building have been determined to be that of an “unidentified young person,” and an investigation was underway Saturday into the cause of death, police said.
Officer Sandra Escalante of the Los Angeles Police Department said the remains were discovered Friday by children who looked inside the chimney after going onto the roof of the building near Main and 89th streets to retrieve a ball.
Homicide detectives and a coroner’s forensic anthropologist were investigating, police said.
