Grizzly Attack Leads to Closure at Park
Rangers have temporarily closed a popular section of Denali National Park and Preserve after a grizzly bear attacked a hiker, officials said.
The hiker, Joanne Saunders of Poquoson, Va., suffered cuts, bruises and a broken nose when the bear grabbed her by an ankle and pulled her onto the ground, the Park Service said. Saunders was treated and released from a Fairbanks hospital.
Park officials said they did not know why the bear had attacked but said the animal could have been surprised because it came across the hiker in an area with heavy brush.
