Freshman quarterback Pat White had 111 yards rushing, taking off on draws that set up freshman Steve Slaton’s four touchdowns, and No. 16 West Virginia defeated host Cincinnati, 38-0, Wednesday night.

The Mountaineers (8-1 overall, 5-0 in Big East Conference play) are in position to clinch the conference title heading into their last regular-season games against Pittsburgh and South Florida, their closest pursuer with one conference loss.

Slaton finished with 129 yards. Cincinnati dropped to 4-5, 2-3.

Notre Dame received a B not for firing Tyrone Willingham, but for the way it went about replacing him, the BCA said.

Of the 119 Division I-A football schools, only three coaches -- Sylvester Croom at Mississippi State, Karl Dorrell at UCLA and Willingham at Washington -- are black. In Division I-AA, Lou West of Indiana State is the only black head coach at a predominantly white university.

Although 13 of 30 schools that made coaching changes in the last year received either an A or B, more than half earned average, below average or failing grades.
