Irvine Man Dies as Car Hits Tree

An Irvine man was killed early Saturday after his car veered off a Costa Mesa interchange and slammed into a tree, the California Highway Patrol said.
Richard Linkon, 30, was driving north on the San Joaquin Hills tollway at a high speed about 3 a.m., a dispatcher said.
As Linkon tried get on the Costa Mesa Freeway, his car veered off the left side of the transition road and wrapped around a tree, uprooting it.
