Giguere Given a Rest

Mighty Duck goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere’s status for Wednesday night’s rematch against the Dallas Stars may be in doubt after he sat out practice Monday to regain weight lost because of dehydration.

Giguere left during the second period of Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the Stars because of a muscle cramp in his left leg.

Team officials realized he lost 10 pounds after playing in Saturday’s overtime loss to Phoenix and had not regained any of the weight before Sunday’s 5 p.m. start.

“That’s just the way it is with me,” said Giguere, who perspires heavily and has had problems with leg cramps in the past. “I’ve still got to pick up five pounds.”

Giguere, who said he was back up to 195 pounds, added that he hoped to practice today, but Duck Coach Randy Carlyle said getting his goalie hydrated was most important.

Left wing Kip Brennan had an MRI test to see whether there is any further damage to his troublesome left shoulder, which he aggravated during the morning skate before Saturday’s game against Phoenix. The results will be determined today.

Carlyle said Sandis Ozolinsh might play Wednesday, but the defenseman said his cracked rib still bothers him, particularly when he shoots.
