City Panel Recommends Funds for Expo Line
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Hoping to jump-start construction of the Exposition Line light-rail system, a City Council panel recommended Friday that Los Angeles pitch in $40 million over the next five years from its local transportation taxes.
The first phase of the $640-million project would run 9.6 miles from downtown to Culver City, with eight stations along the way. City officials are weighing whether to put in local money, because not enough federal funds are available to meet the targeted opening in 2010.
