Taurean Henderson was sure he had gotten over the goal line on the final play of Texas Tech’s game against Oklahoma.

“I was very confident. You never know, though. I was a little nervous too,” Henderson said of his two-yard run that gave the No. 21 Red Raiders a 23-21 win on Saturday. “I started out to score the touchdown, got hit, was laying on top of someone and just stretched out.”

Henderson took the handoff with two seconds remaining and went up the middle. The play was reviewed but the touchdown call was upheld, giving Tech Coach Mike Leach his first victory in six tries against former boss Bob Stoops. Leach was Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator in 1999.

“I didn’t see it and I’m not going to sit here and criticize,” Stoops said.

Texas Tech (9-2, 6-2 Big 12) trailed, 21-17, when it got the ball at its 35 with 1:33 remaining and no timeouts. Cody Hodges completed passes of 26 and seven yards to Robert Johnson and an 18-yarder to Danny Amendola to get the Red Raiders to the Oklahoma five with 13 seconds left to set up Henderson’s final score.

Oklahoma (6-4, 5-2) took the late lead when Adrian Peterson ran 13 yards for a score to cap a 51-yard drive.
