Browns Carry Fullerton

There were several NBA scouts on hand to watch Fullerton’s Bobby Brown go against Pepperdine on Wednesday. And the senior point guard eventually produced the kind of statistical line they like: 22 points, seven assists, one block and three steals.

But it was the “other” Brown -- senior forward Jamaal Brown -- who was the catalyst for the Titans’ 76-66 victory over the Waves at Fullerton.

Jamaal Brown had 27 points (two shy of his career high) and nine rebounds for Fullerton (2-0). He made 11 of 18 shots, and all four free throws.

Jamaal Brown acknowledged “taking a sneak peek” at the table where scouts from the Lakers, Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs were watching. “But I was here to play for my teammates and to win games,” he said. “Tonight just happened to be a night I was scoring.”

Jamaal Brown had 15 first-half points as the Titans struggled to a 33-33 tie. He continued to keep Fullerton close in the second half until Bobby Brown, who had four points in the first half, got on track in the final five minutes.

The Waves (0-2) had gone ahead, 60-57, on a long jumper from freshman guard Michael Gerrity (19 points), who then got Bobby Brown’s attention with some trash talk. The senior responded with 10 straight points, including a three-pointer that came after a wicked crossover dribble against Gerrity.
