Fire destroyed a block-long downtown building in Stamford, forcing as many as 200 people to evacuate the area, officials said. No injuries were reported.
Billows of black smoke could be seen miles from the burning warehouse building that housed several small businesses and artist studios.
“It blanketed all of Stamford,” Deputy Fire Chief William Smith said of the smoke.
