Oh, Sure, NFL Just Can’t Wait to Get Here

Share

Now that the issues of revenue sharing and free agency have been settled, watch for the NFL to do everything in its power to avoid establishing a franchise in L.A.

Despite numerous delays in the past, it ought to be abundantly clear that the league will continue to stiff-arm any efforts to locate a team in L.A. In fact, there is no financial incentive for the owners. Their current TV deals pay handsomely without an L.A. team. If there were a franchise here, they’d make less because they’d have to share revenue with the additional team and shoulder the cost of a new stadium or upgrade.

The media will continue to force the commissioner and the owners to confront the issue. They, in turn, will continue to delay and stall, as they’ve done in the past. Is there truly any reason to believe otherwise?

Interested observers need not hold their breath until the next scheduled meeting, when the commissioner makes his next grand proclamation.
