Hospital Discharges Butler After Tests

Former Dodger Brett Butler was discharged from Antelope Valley Hospital on Thursday afternoon after three days of tests to determine the cause of chest pain he experienced this week.

Butler, who manages the Lancaster JetHawks, the California League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, said Thursday he hopes to resume managing Monday night.

Ten years after he was diagnosed with throat cancer while playing for the Dodgers, Butler, 48, said doctors have ruled out a heart attack and suspect he is suffering from a viral infection. He expects the results of further blood tests over the weekend.

Butler was returning from a series against the High Desert Mavericks on Monday night when he first experienced the symptoms. The team bus was rerouted to the hospital.

“One of my players said I had an allergic reaction to losing,” said Butler, whose team has lost 15 of 20 games.
